Braces Off, SAT Scores In

That’s right. Yesterday was the 21st and many things happened. The first was that I went back to school after a two-week long hiatus because of exams. Yeah so nothing cool, learned my exam grades, and my GPA (only 3.2 but whatever).

It got a lot more interesting after school though. I had my dentist appointment but had no idea that my dentist would take off my braces. He asked me when I was leaving Hong Kong, I told him the morning of the 30th, and he said, “OK, I’m taking your braces off today.” Yeah so, after a few minutes of bearable pain, my braces were off and I’ll be getting my retainers next week just before I leave. The teeth don’t hurt but it feels better without them (no, really?) because my tongue no longer feels the braces but instead slippery teeth, a feeling I haven’t experienced in over a year.

Then I came back home and realized that the June 2nd SAT Reasoning Test scores were in. Not that great but pretty good for my first try, I guess. Here’s the breakdown: Critical Reading: 600 (I thought it was damn hard, especially because there was an extra experimental section); Math: 630 (pretty much what I expected); Writing: 710 (woot! 9 on essay, not that high but still pretty good). So in total that’s a 1940. My target for October when I take it for the second time is at least 2000, hopefully all the studying over the summer will guarantee this. 4 hours sitting at a desk again…

Oh yeah, by the way, I’m leaving for Ukraine on the morning of the 30th and may have very little access to the internet so don’t expect this site to be updated for a month or so after that date.

AP World History

Today I took my AP World History exam. I am now officially done with AP examinations for this year. I actually thought I did quite well on the exam but you never really know with College Board. For those of you that don’t know, the AP World History exam encompasses 10000 years of history into a test format of 70 multiple choice questions and 3 essays. I finished my third essay with still about 15-20 minutes remaining. I spent this time writing in huge, bold letters: “Thanks to Jared Diamond, Howard Spodek and Mike Wing (my teacher)”. It’s an inside “joke” from our history class, but basically the first guy is a historian that made the National Geographic series “Guns, Germs and Steel” and the second guy wrote the textbook we used in class (a book with over 1000 pages of pure history). Hopefully, the graders at ETS will get it.

AP Calculus BC Exam

So I took my AP Calculus BC Exam today. It was the first AP exam I’ve ever taken and I’m taking the AP World History one next Thursday. It was hard but I felt I did better than any of my previous practice exams. College Board tells me I’m not allowed to talk about the content of the exam for 48 hours so yeah. I’ll get the results back sometime in late June, hoping for a 5 but at least a 3.
