I was an early adopter of Mozilla Firefox. I started using it on Windows before there was a version 1.0 and have stuck with it till now, on my Mac.
Back then there was an undeniably huge feature gap between Microsoft’s Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox. There were a few other web browsers that never really caught on; I used MYIE2 for a while, tried out Netscape and Opera but finally settled on Firefox. Through the years, Firefox has not ceased to impress me with a slew of smart new features that make everyone’s browsing experience so much more efficient, and in turn enjoyable. Their market share grew rapidly, and more and more of my friends switched to Firefox from the piece of shit that was Internet Explorer.
For obvious reasons, Microsoft realized it needed to do something to stay competitive and released Internet Explorer 7 but I have so far not heard of a single person who uses Firefox that switched back to IE 7, therefore I consider it to be a failure. It was better than IE 6, don’t get me wrong, but Firefox’s open-source nature made it a clear winner in the web browser war over the past few years.
I realize that blogging while studying at HKUST is not always easy to do with all the work we get and sometimes the lack of motivation to write blog entries so I must commend Rahul (one of my friends here at UST studying Computer Engineering) on starting up his blog.
He’s still nagging me to help him sort out some small issues with the theme and plugins and whatnot, but I must say I’m glad he chose WordPress and I hope he will continue blogging about our life here in HKUST, since no one else really is.
Well it looks as though I’ve finally found some time to write a shorter-than-usual post about my family’s winter vacation in the US. We spent about a week each (in chronological order) in New York City, Florida, and Maine, spanning January 12-31.
To save myself and everyone else time, I’ll keep this entry short and instead include links to the freshly uploaded flickr sets. Instead of going into detail about all the things I did while I was there I’ll just stick to what I like to call “highlights of the trip” on a state-by-state basis. Here we go…
New York City
// Even though I had just come off of a 20-hour flight from HK through Seoul, I felt ready to take on NYC from the first night on. All was good until my jet lag encountered the second Broadway musical (South Pacific) we watched a few days after arrival. The first was “Mamma Mia”. Didn’t sleep through that one.
// Our hotel was across the street from the newly built New York Times building. Pretty sweet.

I have successfully completed the mission of removing dozens of “friends” from my Facebook friends list because I either don’t know, don’t care or don’t want them on my list of friends. I honestly had way too many people on Facebook who are not actually my friends (like not even close, never talked to them or anything) and I’m tired of feeling like a Facebook whore.
In more statistical terms, I went from 502 friends to 431. That’s 71 people who I really don’t know! Still a large number of friends left, but the people that are left I have at least some sort of connection to so it’s cool.
So if for any reason I’ve deleted you off my list, I either don’t like you (just kidding) or don’t really know you.
Maybe it’s your turn to employ some Soviet style purging to your Facebook…
