We Will Rock You

We Will Rock You Poster

I went to the “We Will Rock You” musical/concert here in Hong Kong on May 27th and it was awesome to say the least. I’m quite a big fan of Queen (and a lot of older music in general) so it was natural that I would go to a musical with music by Queen.

It was also an interesting thing for me that the lead role in the musical/concert was Mig Ayesa, one of the final three competitors on the show “Rockstar INXS” which I watched almost religiously around 2003 or 2004. To be honest, he was my favorite out of all the other competitors.

As for the musical itself, everything in it was based on Queen material. The names, events, etc. were all taken from Queen music lyrics. My guess is that the musical is meant to be a comedy of sorts and if it was it lived up to its genre. The music was played by a live band hidden from the audience’s view until the end of the show. The set designs, lighting and costumes were all very beautiful. And most importantly, the acting and singing was spectacular although I do think Mig Ayesa (Galileo) could do away with the American accent he butchered up in the show.

The producers of the show even managed to add some local flavor to the show by mentioning famous sights and songs from Hong Kong, thereby making for a more comedic evening.

The show will keep playing in Hong Kong throughout June and I recommend any local Queen or rock fan to watch it. It’s well worth the money.

Meme: 7 things about me you’d likely not guess

After surfing the internet, I somehow stumbled upon my friend Elliot’s blog and noticed that I was tagged in one of his memes.

For those of you unfamiliar with the term, a meme is simply an idea, project, statement or even a question that is posted by one blog and responded to by other blogs.

“The meme asks me to give a link to the person who meme’d me, to tell 7 interesting things about me, and to then pass the meme on. I interpreted the meme to mean that I should tell things that you’re not likely to guess. Here goes:”

In no particular order,

1. I can’t stand it when I or someone else rubs styrofoam like the kind found in packaging, it gives me shivers everywhere.

2. Eating dark chocolate makes me sneeze, but milk chocolate doesn’t. Usually the darker the chocolate, the quicker I sneeze. But I do love chocolate.

3. In Elementary School I was addicted to the “Magic Tree House” book series but this addiction ended after I discovered Harry Potter in grade 4.

4. I created my first website in 2001 during grade 5 and it was hosted on Yahoo! Geocities. I’m so glad that I was introduced to website design by my grade 5 teacher.

5. I can wiggle my ears voluntarily.

6. I was born with black hair which then became blond. No kidding.

7. I’ve watched the movie “Twister” at least 6 times.

I tag Jason and Mike to carry on this meme.
