We’ve all heard that excuse a student gives when a teacher tells that student to spit out his gum: “but it helps me think better.” But before you start making any judgments stop and listen to a little science. Many scientists are trying to prove that chewing gum can actually make you smarter. They claim that the repetitive act of chewing gum involves a lot of jaw movement. This jaw moving increases the blood circulation surrounding the brain. Obviously enough, the more blood circulation to your brain, the more activity will be going on in your brain. This helps when you’re studying or trying to pay attention to your teacher. Therefore, this gives you a higher IQ.
Chewing may cause an increased heart rate and a surge in insulin to the brain. It’s the extra oxygen and glucose that do the trick. #
Many are still skeptical but either way, I don’t mind, except for those times when I touch the underside of my desk in class and get a big sticky piece of gum on my finger.
