Me and my friends went to watch The Da Vinci Code yesterday after school and I guess it’s fair to say that the movie was okay but not awesome. I’m no big movie critic. I never finished the book so it was nice that I didn’t know the whole story and how the movie would end. This gave the movie at least some suspense. It is actually quite an interesting story that Dan Brown wrote although I viewed it as just a fictional story and not much else. Personally I think that Silas was the most developed and realistic seeming character and his character showed real passion.
Movie aside, I bought about a liter sized cup of Coke (without any ice) for HKD22 which is about $3 US and was the only one of the group who could finish it completely. Definitely a big negative for my health and the first and last time I’ll do something like that since I was pissing nonstop for about a minute afterwards and was only able to eat a double-cheeseburger for the rest of the night. Crazy stuff.
Oh yeah, this is my 200th post on this blog. And here’s my 100th from a while back. It’s been a long time looking back.

I’ve been waiting for this day for ages and it finally happened. Apple released the MacBook (new iBook) on Tuesday. It still bears a very similar look to the original iBook but it has in fact been greatly redesigned. The new ‘Book features a built-in iSight camera, an Intel Core Duo chip which makes it a whopping 5 times faster (from 1.83Ghz up to 2.0Ghz) than the original and 13.3 inch widescreen display. One of the coolest things is that Apple now offers a black MacBook. This black one costs more than the two white models and has nothing extra other than a bigger harddrive and a different colored enclosure. One of the things I’m happiest about with the new MacBook is the resolution. For years now, the iBooks have had only a 1024 x 786 resolution. Even when other laptops had 1280 by 1024 or large widescreen resolutions, the iBook only had that. Well Apple has finally fixed that and upped the resolution to a 1280 x 800 widescreen resolution. Thank you. Most of the other features are seen on the MacBook Pro and I don’t have the time to detail them, just check it out at Apple’s website.

I was greatly hoping that Typhoon Chanchu would have a direct hit on Hong Kong and a few days ago that actually looked like the case. It was a very strong typhoon and had killed 40 or so people in the Phillipines. It’s actually kind of strange that such a powerful typhoon was around Hong Kong in the month of May.
Anyway, the reason I was hoping that it would hit Hong Kong is because usually when a strong typhoon hits, the government raises a Typhoon signal and if this signal reaches T8, schools and businesses are closed and everyone is advised to stay at home. This signal goes in the order T1 (windy), T3 (somewhat strong winds), T8 (very strong winds) and T10 (you don’t want to be outside winds). In Hong Kong, the signal only went up to T3 since the typhoon veered East of Hong Kong and hit land in some part of Guandong province. So I wasn’t able to miss school and instead had to slosh around school because it kept on raining. I must say that the wind was really nice and it wasn’t hot like usual. Yeah that’s about it, the typhoon has basically passed us already.

It’s nice when I wake up and am greeted by an unpolluted Hong Kong skyline. I just wish this happened more often.

We’ve all heard that excuse a student gives when a teacher tells that student to spit out his gum: “but it helps me think better.” But before you start making any judgments stop and listen to a little science. Many scientists are trying to prove that chewing gum can actually make you smarter. They claim that the repetitive act of chewing gum involves a lot of jaw movement. This jaw moving increases the blood circulation surrounding the brain. Obviously enough, the more blood circulation to your brain, the more activity will be going on in your brain. This helps when you’re studying or trying to pay attention to your teacher. Therefore, this gives you a higher IQ.
Chewing may cause an increased heart rate and a surge in insulin to the brain. It’s the extra oxygen and glucose that do the trick. #
Many are still skeptical but either way, I don’t mind, except for those times when I touch the underside of my desk in class and get a big sticky piece of gum on my finger.
