So me and a couple of other students from my school have been invited to participate in a forensics debate at the United World College Li Po Chun Campus in Hong Kong. A lot of other international Hong Kong schools are going to be there and from what I’ve heard it’ll be fun and a good experience. I don’t know if this is a good thing for my school or not because our debate team is rather novice and most of us don’t have much experience. I had gone to debate competitions before (in grade seven and eight) but I think those were a lot easier than this one is going to be. Anyway, here’s the letter they sent to me:
Dear Participants and Coaches,
The Li Po Chun Forensics Tournament Organizing Committee proudly presents the long-awaited motion for *World’s Style Debate* this Sunday. The motion reads:
This House Would Disregard Patent Rights in the Production of Anti-Retroviral Drugs for Combating AIDS in Africa
Debaters with questions are encouraged to contact the tournament organizers by e-mail before Sunday’s competition. To clarify, this resolution applies only to those debaters competing in the World’s Style Debate Category – debaters entered in British Parliamentary Debate will be assigned a resolution half an hour before the start of the round.
We look forward to seeing you on Sunday!
Luckily, I think I’m in the World Style Debate Category where the speech is impromptu and hopefully I won’t have to deal with AIDS in Africa. Uh, not so lucky, I am doing both the impromptu and World Style Debate. There goes my Sunday.
