With vice-presidents shooting their millionaire friends who they mistook for birds and a large part of the Muslim world in uproar over some 6 month old cartoon it’s hard to really understand what’s going on in the world. Were things this weird 50 years ago? I wouldn’t know because I wasn’t around. I just feel there’s so much stupidity in the world, it’s funny. What is the twenty-first century turning into; a comedy? I just had to write this down because it’s been swimming around in my head for a few days now.

Every year there is a Hong Kong Standard Chartered Marathon in Hong Kong. Many people take part (I think 35,000 this year). Anyway, the events just started about 2 hours ago and the half marathon (22 km) just started a few minutes ago. The marathon (42 km) will commence in only a few minutes. I took this picture from my apartment (69 floors up) of the massive amount of people actually taking part. Now I only see about 10 people or so; the slowpokes you know. I have pictures of it from last year as well. No one from my family is participating (24 miles, no way) but it’s still fun to watch on TV. It’s usually the guys from Kenya who win. Here’s a picture:

They finally did it. Apple has released a new 1Gb iPod nano. I guess this was just an update with nothing surrounded. I just went onto the Apple website and the saw the thing down in one of the four boxes at the bottom. It looks exactly like the other iPod nano models, holds about 240 songs and costs US$149. The iPod shuffle is still on the website BUT now the 512Mb model costs US$69, not the previous US$99 and the 1Gb shuffle costs US$99 (previously US$149). The other iPod nanos did not get a price change.
So me and a couple of other students from my school have been invited to participate in a forensics debate at the United World College Li Po Chun Campus in Hong Kong. A lot of other international Hong Kong schools are going to be there and from what I’ve heard it’ll be fun and a good experience. I don’t know if this is a good thing for my school or not because our debate team is rather novice and most of us don’t have much experience. I had gone to debate competitions before (in grade seven and eight) but I think those were a lot easier than this one is going to be. Anyway, here’s the letter they sent to me:
Dear Participants and Coaches,
The Li Po Chun Forensics Tournament Organizing Committee proudly presents the long-awaited motion for *World’s Style Debate* this Sunday. The motion reads:
This House Would Disregard Patent Rights in the Production of Anti-Retroviral Drugs for Combating AIDS in Africa
Debaters with questions are encouraged to contact the tournament organizers by e-mail before Sunday’s competition. To clarify, this resolution applies only to those debaters competing in the World’s Style Debate Category – debaters entered in British Parliamentary Debate will be assigned a resolution half an hour before the start of the round.
We look forward to seeing you on Sunday!
Luckily, I think I’m in the World Style Debate Category where the speech is impromptu and hopefully I won’t have to deal with AIDS in Africa. Uh, not so lucky, I am doing both the impromptu and World Style Debate. There goes my Sunday.
