Letter to Apple

Poor Jason Kottke. He wrote a letter to Apple support and he had something to say about the new MacBook Pro, something that made him sob:

Hello,

I purchased a new Powerbook three weeks ago. It was working fine until a few hours ago when you announced the new Intel-powered MacBook Pro at MacWorld and I started to cry. “Four to fives times faster,” I sobbed, “a built-in iSight, and a brighter, wider screen.”

My display, while not as bright or large as the new MacBook Pro display, illuminated my wet cheeks and red, swollen eyes as my tears rained down on the backlit keyboard. An acrid smell rose up from inside the smooth metal machine as my salty tears joined with the electronics, joyfully releasing the electrons from their assigned silicon pathways to freely arc into forbidden areas of the computer and elsewhere, including, somewhat painfully, my hands.

Is this covered under my warranty and if so, can you send me a new MacBook Pro as a replacement, please? Thank you for your time,

-jason

Poor Jason. I would be really angry about something like this. I know some friends who bought first-generation iPod minis right before they released second gen ones and lowered the price.

MWSF 2006 Keynote

Well the things they released kind of took me by surprise. I was expecting a new Mac Mini and a new iBook but this is what they actually released:

iLife 06: New application called iWeb allowing you to make very beautiful websites with just a few clicks. New features for other programs like iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD and Garageband. There is now a “Podcasting Studio” in Garageband which looks great.

iWork 06: Not much except nicer graphs.

Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.4: New update with some widgets and stuff.

iMac: Same sizes (17 and 20 inch models), same design but way faster (2-3x actually), using new Intel Core Duo processors.

MacBook Pro: Apple wanted to have it’s Mac name on it notebooks so they called it the MacBook Pro. I quess that when the iBook goes Intel it’ll be called the MacBook or something. Anyway, besides the name (we’ll get used to it), the computer is awesome. 15.4 inch really bright screen, built in iSight camera, it’s an inch thick and weighs less than 6 pounds, has a very similar look to the PowerBook G4, 4-5 times faster than the G4, MagSafe (power cord is attached to the computer by a magnet so that if it gets pulled on it just comes off and doesn’t take the computer tumbling off the desk if someone trips over the power cord). And of course Front Row on the MacBook. Starting at $1999.

Anyway, the rest of the Macs are supposed to switch to Intel processors throughout the year and I am still hoping the iBook gets Intel soon because there’s no way I can buy a US$2000 laptop at the current moment and I want Intel in my laptop especially if it’s less than US$1000. I guess I’ll just have to wait.

Go watch the keynote.

Updated & Upgraded

I finally got around to posting something here and the reason is new stuff. I have upgraded WordPress to 2.0, installed K2 Beta Two, changed the site’s design, quite dramatically if I may say so myself. So where have I been these past what, 3 weeks? I have exams, which end on the 11th and I have been studying, taking the exams, going to my friends’ houses and watching movies. Later today, I have an English exam which I have no worries about. Most of my studying time is devoted to Precalculus anyway.

January 11th is going to be a huge day for me as it is the day of MWSF ‘06, MacWorld San Francisco 2006. For the non-Mac people out there, it’s basically the biggest day in the Apple calendar where the company introduces new products and such. The product I am waiting for is the new Intel iBook which I plan on buying. They are also rumored to release a new Mac Mini, new iPod Shuffle and some new products and services which don’t affect me personally.

Anyway, I mentioned that I – once again – changed the layout of my blog. With the introduction of WP 2 and K2 Beta Two, I couldn’t stop the urge to mess around with the look. It’s nowhere finished yet. The archives page is completely borked. I was tired of the sidebar being on the side, so I decided to put it down below the posts. The search is now in the header and all that’s left in the sidebar (bottombar) is comments. I might add a flickr badge down there too, following in the footsteps of Binary Bonsai’s Michael. His Invader theme is really something, too bad it’s not for the public to use.

I might be able to post again sometime soon or maybe not sometime soon, I am not sure but stay tuned, more will come.

Microsoft Flight Simulator X

The last Microsoft Flight Simulator I’ve played is FS2000. I have never played a newer version since that. Microsoft has made FS2002 and FS2004 and they now released some preview images of the new FS, version X. When I first saw the title, I thought they were releasing it for the Mac or something (as in Office X) but that’s just the name they decided to use for it. The graphics of this thing are incredible. Everytime they come out with a new version of Flight Simulator it just gets better and better graphics and it becomes almost as realistic as the real thing. So without further ado, here’s a screenshot (for more go on over to FSPlanet):
