Reactivity in Metals

Last week we did an investigation in Chemistry where we tested the reactivity of certain metals in the “Activity Series of the metals”. It was a very easy investigation and took little effort. Now I sit before the computer doing my lab on this experiment and the questions are so trivial and grade-1 like it’s not even funny. We did the experiment with three different metals: zinc, lead and copper. I put the results in the table and showed that zinc is the most reactive, then Lead and then Copper (least reactive). Here’s an example of a question on the lab:

Tin is less active than zinc but more active than lead. How would a strip of tin have reacted in this investigation?

Woah?! Well it would have reacted more than lead and less than zinc. What kind of question is that? There are more similar questions all over the paper and I feel like it is a waste of time. /Rant over.

Anyway, school is fine and now I’m off to that dumb lab again.

Linux On My Mini

I did it! I installed iPodLinux on my 2nd generation iPod mini. It wasn’t that complicated of a process as a matter of fact. I was having a few problems in the beginning with a blank screen but then I restored my iPod, installed Linux on it and it worked.

There’s nothing really amazing about having iPodLinux on your iPod except for the fact that people have created a way to watch videos on non-video iPods and I really want to try it out. So now I’m off to install that video application thing and see if I can watch black and white videos on my mini’s 1-inch screen. Imagine the possibilites.

UPDATE: The video is working. Of course video on a black and white 1-inch screen isn’t all awesome but it’s still cool.

UPDATE: LMAO. I can play Doom on it.

Sprained

I sprained my foot today after school while playing soccer with a volleyball. I was just dribbling the ball when all of a sudden my ankle twists and my foot is at a 90 degree angle. Ouch. The pain is still great and I was icing it for half an hour whilst enduring the excrutiating pain. I hope it’ll be fine soon because as of now, I can barely walk. Stupid bones.

Giving Thanks… And No Thanks

Today being Thanksgiving, I guess I should give thanks to some people and stuff. I am of course thankful for my family (cat included). I am thankful that I am going to have a good Thanksgiving dinner on Saturday. I am thankful for the computer and the internet and this blog that I run. I’m even thankful for Windows because it still serves me well until I make the switch to Mac (soon, soon…)

I am not thankful for the pollution in Hong Kong. There should really be something done about that dirty air. I was very unthankful that we had to eat lunch at school outside in the hot and humid temperatures of Hong Kong and then wait 15 minutes just to be served and the fact that we had to sing the school song like 4 times. Through further conversation I found out that the whole school-song-singing was just a plan to kill time while the food caterers were busy getting the food.

Happy Thanksgiving Day, all you Americans and other people who celebrate this day of thanks. Now I’m off to thank my exhausted body for its hard work and lie it on the bed that I am also thankful for. Good Night.

Oliver Twist (2005)

I went to watch Oliver Twist yesterday and I must say it was better than expected. I was expecting a silly story for kids but was instead met with both great acting skills and awesome directing by the famous Roman Polanski, well know for his direction of “The Pianist”.

The movie is based off of Charles Dickens’ famous novel by the same name. The story takes place in England during Victorian Times. Oliver Twist is an orphon who isn’t happy with his poor life. After going through some bad experiences in the orphanage and as an apprentice, he leaves his small town and heads towards London, almost dying on the way. Upon getting to London he meets a group of kid thieves and joins them. And then the trouble begins. No spoilers today, go watch the movie. I promise it’ll be worth it.

After the movie, I watched Birth with Nicole Kidman and it was a so-so movie in the sense that the plot was weird but the acting was good.

Signing off now, see ya.
