Why Per 100?

You know how when you go to the grocery store to buy something, like a drink, or pickles or muffins or whatever it is you like eating, you look at the Nutrition Facts and it says “per 100mL” or “per 100g” or “per serving” and stuff? You do, right? OK, so get this: you buy yourself this little pie and look at those facts and it says that the little pie is 3 servings. It’s a very small pie and a normal person could eat that whole pie plus dinner. What’s up with that?

Another scenario for ya: on a lot of soda and other carbonated beverages you look at the facts and it says per 100mL, but the can has say 300mL in it. Why not just write per can or per 300mL? I am seriously confused. This type of thing usually happens with American products. Do the people that make these labels think they are geniuses or are they trying to fool people into thinking they’re actually not getting that many calories or fats or what it may be. Or are the people that make these labels just too lazy to make different labels for cans and other foods? Whatever the reason, it’s not very smart.

Can someone explain? Am I eating and drinking too much? I don’t look very fat. Why per 100? Seriously.

I’m not the only one who questions this: check this out.

i uh… kind of don’t get what you’re talking about.
do you normally write stuff about this? because i have no idea what this is about.
[call me stupid, really i don't get it]

but if so, then i guess the shops & cans are just decieving us or something. because like heck, i drink alot of sodas just like everyone. but some of us aren’t fat so… no big deal right? [or not]

Yeah, you got it. It’s a conspiracy I tell ya, a conspiracy!

It’s obviously entirely psychological. It’s the same reason people in the US charge 49.99$ instead of 50 dollars, or why gas prices have 9/10th of a cent tacked onto each gallon. If your food looks unhealthy, they’ll just lower the serving size so that it looks like there’s less crap in your food.
