Google has released an IM/Chat client to rival Microsoft’s MSN Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger and AIM (AOL Instant Messenger). How well will this new free IM software do to compete with these well known and widely used programs? I dunno. I downloaded the software and tried it out and it’s OK, nothing amazing. I haven’t spoken to anyone using it yet so I don’t even know how the “chat” function works. I’ll see soon when my friends start using it. By the way, you have to have a Gmail account to use Google Talk and if you don’t have one (who doesn’t?) just comment here because I have tons of invites to give away. Here’s what Google has to say about its new program:
They say talk is cheap. Google thinks it should be free. Google Talk enables you to call or send instant messages to your friends for free–anytime, anywhere in the world. Google Talk offers you:
• Choice: Get in touch over email, IM or a call
• Quality: Talk through your computer but hear your friends as if they were in the same room
• Convenience: Your Gmail contacts are pre-loaded into Google Talk so inviting or talking to your friends is just a click away.
So go ahead and download it, heck it’s free!

Its a good start–nothing more nothing less.
I think it sucks, just copying what jabber has been doing. On the page, I don’t see at least one mention to jabber. They suck, they just want to be more popular to get more money.
Yeah it’s nothing amazing really and I doubt that people will actually switch from MSN Messenger anyway. Google’s gonna have to put in something extraordinary into Talk if they want to get anywhere because right now it’s just another chat client.
Oh yeah, JP, I noticed your site uses my theme with some of my older elements, checked your k2scheme file: “ripped from http://www.illya.sizzly.com/
