Google Earth!

YEEEEEAAAHH!!!!!

OK, so if you thought Google Maps was cool, Google Earth is about a million times better. And the greatest thing, it is free to download. I’ll just let this picture speak for itself. Don’t believe me yet? Well, just look at the picture below, it’s where I live (smack in the middle). Note that the below image is not zoomed in fully. It is still amazingly clear if I zoom into about 600 feet (the building is about that tall, too). Go download it now and be amazed!

And just for good measure… my school:

The idea is simple. It’s a globe that sits inside your PC. You point and zoom to anyplace on the planet that you want to explore. Satellite images and local facts zoom into view. Tap into Google search to show local points of interest and facts. Zoom to a specific address to check out an apartment or hotel. View driving directions and even fly along your route. We invite you to try it now.

Graduation in AIS

Today was the high school graduation for the grade 12 students leaving our school and going to college or to work in some cases. I have gone to the graduations 4 years in a row now and this year was no exception. Usually I just sit around and watch and waste my time, but this year I was actually helping. I was pouring drinks at the food stall and also being an usher. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be and many of my friends were there. We had balloon fights (hey, it’s not childish!), played soccer in the rain and ate a lot of food leftover from the graduation party.

Today was officially the last day of school for students, not everyone had to come, only people helping or people who want to watch the graduation. It’s raining again which means no soccer on a real pitch for me, maybe tomorrow.

Gee, I’ll be graduating in only 3 years…

Report Card

This year: Honor Role
Goal for next year: Principal Honor Role

I am gonna have to really work and work hard to get that Principal Honor Role because I am not happy with my current GPA and grades. This will require a lot of effort and responsibility but I am going to do it and my goal is to have a GPA of over 3.5 next year, grade 10. That’s all I have to say.

Batman Begins (2005)

Today I watched Batman Begins in the theater. I usually don’t go to the theater to watch movies but on this occasion I did. I was expecting the movie to be some dumb rosy action movie about an impossible super hero, but this was a movie that I actually liked and recommend to others. This movie shows Bruce Wayne before he becomes Batman and how he goes about becoming Batman. I think the plot was quite good and at some points the action was so intense and interesting that you couldn’t turn away. The first hour or so doesn’t have much action and it introduces you to the life of Bruce Wayne and Gotham City, which is being destroyed. Then, all the action starts and in the end, Batman saves the city and the cool thing at the end is this police officer shows Batman who he has to defeat next: he flips over a card and it’s a Joker. You’ll only know what this means if you’ve watched the previous films.

Anyway, I’m not really a film critic or anything and I am not about to write one of my long, pointless essays but I thought that this movie was quite good. With the cast of Christian Bale, Katie Holmes, Morgan Freeman and a lot of other great actors, this will have to be the best Batman movie yet (at least in my opinion).

I also noticed that Rebecca (website) has also written a review of Batman Begins and I share some of her thoughts (more like her whole post):

In short, I thought it was a terrific movie. The villains were menacing, the city haunting, and the hero believably human.

It tells the story of how Bruce Wayne evolved to be more than just a man. The brilliant cast somehow pulls off making a man who runs around dressed like a bat seem plausible. Gotham City was beautiful, in that rotting, crime-infested sort of way.

I gotta get me one of those cars.

Yeah, the Batmobile was cool, so was the Lamborghini shown earlier on.

I think, therefore I am

Today, at school. In the morning we had to listen to 5 different people talk about their careers. We had, in the order of them speaking, a psychiatrist, a Harvard Law School lawyer, some woman that worked for a spa company or something, a Hong Kong police officer and last but not least, a woman working for the YMCA, who is also the wife of one of the teachers in High School. They talked about their careers, what you need to work in the type of job they work in and general stuff like that. Of course, there were some ‘immature’ students who asked how much they were getting paid. I mean yeah, they’re probably curious, but it’s just not a nice thing to ask and a hard thing to answer, since it all has to do with how hard you work and how much effort you put into your work, and if you really want to know, go to google and find out.

After these speeches, we did House activities. First we had a science investigation where we had to seperate different matter from a mixture of things without using your bare hands. We had to seperate sand, salt, marbles, pieces of styrofoam, nails and pebbles. My group came in second, because we had too much water when we were evaporating the water using the bunsen burner. I hope people reading this know what I am talking about.

The second house activity was building a free-standing structure using only balloons and tape. Sounds easy, doesn’t it? Well, each group was divided into 3 mini groups. One group could only talk but was not allowed to touch the materials, another group could only touch the materials but they couldn’t build or talk. And the third group had to be blindfolded and they had to actually build the structure. I was a talker and instructed the people building on how to do it. It was quite confusing actually, for the people building but we managed to win. The other groups cheated and everyone in the group was touching the materials and building. Our group, humbly, was the fairest.

The third and last activity was taking a general knowledge test. My group, with thanks to me and a couple of other people, blew the other groups out of the water. The quiz was based on China and Hong Kong facts, sports facts and the school’s facts. Our group, out of a total of 40 points got 35 and won. We were the only group (with great thanks to me) to know that Osama bin Laden’s country of origin was Saudi Arabia and not Afghanistan. We also knew that our Math and French teacher was from Tunisia and not France, that the MTR stood for Mass Transit Railway and not Motor Train Railway as said by another group (they though they were right too!)

Anyway, after activities, we were able to have a sneak peek at our report cards, I am getting an Honor Role, though my GPA is not so amazing, it is over 3.0 though. Then we went down to the hall and sang the school song while practicing what Wednesday’s Award Ceremony would be like.

Tomorrow is the so-called “Activities Day” (my school loves the word ‘activities’) and I am going to watch a movie. The thing is, the movie is Batman Begins. I’ll have to live through that one.

Man, I am tired of typing, my posts are like essays and not like normal blog posts. Sorry guys, I just really have to clear my mind and this is how I do it, but it tires my hands on these crappy school keyboards and its bad ergonomics. I am gonna get Carpal Tunnel Syndrome soon…
